The Not Yet For The Dress event was held this year at the Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery, which saw strong support from advocates of human rights both locally and from around the world. With support from UN Women, the gala highlighted the need to abolish early and forced marriage, both globally and here in North America. Nisha led our production team as we covered the event, speaking with personalities like Mark Brand, Mandy Sanghera, and Fabian Dawson about the importance of shedding light on this tragic issue.

This cause is truly important and effects us right here in Canada. As the organizers behind Not Yet For The Dress have stated:
"Each year, 15 million girls are married before the age of 18. That is one every two seconds. There is growing recognition that forced marriage is a human rights violation and a severe impediment to global social and economic development.
This is not just an international crisis; it’s a North American issue as well. Canada has various provisions in family, immigration, and criminal laws which do address marriage without consent. However, as the passing of Senate Bill S-7 has revealed, those laws do little to stem cultural practices and in fact S-7 has perhaps caused an adverse reflex, causing those affected to go further underground. Also, families still send children elsewhere to marry at even younger ages than locally permitted."
